Norris wants more improvements on the McLaren
Lando Norris is satisfied with the progress of the MCL36, but for him McLaren must bring further improvements to meet certain characteristics of the upcoming circuits.

McLaren has regained some of its strength in recent weeks. The Woking team was very concerning during the first round of the season in Bahrain. Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo qualified in 13th and 18th place respectively, and they couldn’t score any points on Sunday. To make matters worse, only Latifi and Hülkenberg finished behind them.
Fourth in the standings last year, McLaren seemed condemned to a year at the back of the grid, but the British team quickly managed to improve their MCL36 to regain a more respectable position. With 59 points (including 48 from Norris), the eight-time world champions currently hold fourth place in the standings before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Only downside: the third place is already very far away. Mercedes has more than double the points (134) and McLaren doesn’t seem to have a car performing well enough to catch up, at least for now.
Lando Norris is aware of it, and for him, there will need to be more improvements on the MCL36 in the coming weeks, especially in preparation for races on circuits with particular characteristics.
« I think there are a few places that are slightly more challenging. I want to believe that overall, we have probably improved the car on average across all circuits. I think there are still a few where we struggled a lot last season, and I think they are different in terms of characteristics from all the ones we’ve been to. So places like Zandvoort, and things like that. » explains Norris.
« We still have to explore all types of turns and tracks, etc. But I want to believe and I think I’m confident enough to say that we have improved the car in most areas. And what we need now, overall, is an upgrade of the whole package, I think. » hopes the young Briton.
The Woking team is also in a difficult situation with Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian is not performing well and it is difficult to know if he will still be present on the grid next year.
