Oscar Piastri is getting closer to Williams for 2023
Oscar Piastri is set to join Williams in 2023, replacing Nicholas Latifi. The reigning F2 champion is expected to be loaned by Alpine. The announcement could come at the end of the month.

According to the information from The Race, Oscar Piastri is said to be on the verge of joining Williams in 2023. The Australian driver would take the seat of Nicholas Latifi, whose departure seems more inevitable than ever.
Under contract with Alpine, for whom he is the reserve driver this season, Piastri reportedly has a clause in his contract allowing him to join another team if the French team cannot find him a seat before July. However, with Esteban Ocon, under contract until 2024, and Fernando Alonso expected to extend his deal, there will likely be no available seat for the Australian in 2023.
Thus, Alpine should lend its young driver to Williams, as Red Bull is doing this season with Alex Albon. The announcement could happen by the end of the month, in accordance with Piastri’s contract clause allowing him to leave if he doesn’t have a seat by July.
The Australian is a driver who enjoys a great reputation after winning the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2019, the Formula 3 in 2020, and the Formula 2 last year. At 21 years old, he seems ready to enter the big leagues.
