Pirelli reveals its tire choice for Canada and expresses some doubts

Formula 1 is heading to Canada for the 9th race of the Formula 1 World Championship. An update on the tires and difficulties of Pirelli.

On the occasion of the Canadian Grand Prix, Pirelli arrives in Montreal with a lot of uncertainties and questions. The three types of tires chosen for this Grand Prix are the same as in Monaco and Baku: the C3, C4 and C5.

The layout of the Gilles Villeneuve circuit is often compared to that of Baku, with long straight lines and slower turns, although top speeds are much lower here. emphasis is placed on traction out of the turns and strong braking.

But here’s the thing, Pirelli lacks information about this Grand Prix, as it is the first GP in three years in Canada, absent since 2019, and the first time that 18-inch tires will roll on this track.

Mario Isola, Pirelli F1 manager, explains: The Canadian Grand Prix has a number of unknowns that teams will have to deal with: the weather is often variable, all the available data dates back three years, the range of tires is completely different from last time, with renewed compounds and structures. All of this on a not extensively used track that will have a high evolution throughout the weekend.

On the other hand, compared to last time in Montreal, the compounds should be more stable with wider usage windows, allowing the drivers to push harder on each stint with much less risk of overheating.

Another interesting aspect of this circuit, and one that could influence strategies, is the time it takes to get to the pits: a driver can enter and exit the pits in less than 20 seconds, which is among the fastest times on the calendar.
