During the first Grand Prix of the season in Bahrain, Kevin Magnussen showed a glimpse of hope for Haas to consistently be in the top 10. By finishing 5th, the Danish driver scored ten points, seven more than what the team had scored in the past two seasons (2020 and 2021).

But since this feat that marked Magnussen’s return to the top category, Haas has only scored five points in the seven other races of this season’s beginning. Between reliability issues, accidents, and incidents on the track, Günther Steiner’s team quickly came back down to Earth: there is still a long way to go.

This weekend in Baku, Haas did not score any points for the fourth consecutive race, since Magnussen’s ninth place at Imola. However, for the Danish driver, it is not a lack of performance, but a factor that also affects a certain Italian team.

« We were able to score points in Monaco, and then we had an engine problem. Today, once again, we were able to score points. So, I’m not really worried about the performance, I’m just more concerned about the reliability, and yes, we need to stay focused, stay positive, and it will work out for us sooner or later,” said Magnussen after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

For Mick Schumacher, who started last on the grid, making a comeback was simply too complicated. He finishes 14th, second to last, taking into account only the cars that crossed the finish line.

« No, it is clear that we were not able to make it back on Sunday. It’s something we need to look into. We didn’t have a safety car, nor a red flag either. I think I was counting on at least three safety cars and a red flag. But that didn’t happen, so obviously we did our best and the pace just wasn’t there, » the German observes.

The only driver who hasn’t scored any points with Nicholas Latifi, a potential awakening of Mick Schumacher could help Haas finally materialize the car’s performance into good results on Sundays. Kevin Magnussen, on the other hand, hasn’t had a race without incidents since his last points finish in Imola, with three retirements (in Miami, Monaco, and Baku) and a ruined race as soon as the first lap in Barcelona after a contact with Lewis Hamilton.
