Albon is optimistic about Williams after Baku
Finishing 12th in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Alex Albon enjoyed his race. Even better, the Thai driver appears optimistic about the performance of his Williams and believes that the pace of the FW44 could become interesting.

Taking advantage of the retirements ahead of him, Alex Albon finished in 12th place on the streets of Baku last weekend. After two challenging Grand Prix races in Barcelona and Monaco, the Thai driver once again comes close to the top 10. With three points in the drivers’ championship, despite having the worst car on the grid, Albon is having a good start to the season.
While Latifi sails in anonymity at the bottom of the standings, he seems to extract much more from his FW44 and continues to show that reaching the points is not an unachievable goal.
“It was a fun race here in Baku,” says the Thai driver. “We were just a little unlucky with the timing of the virtual safety car, otherwise we would have been in a better position for points today, but once again our race pace was really strong.”
A good omen for what’s to come.
Beyond a race he clearly enjoyed, Alex Albon seems genuinely optimistic about the performance of his Williams. « If you look at our pace compared to the midfield, it was really strong, we were as fast if not faster than many cars in front of us. »
Currently trailing far behind in the constructors’ rankings, with a 12-point gap from the Aston Martin-Haas duo in 8th and 9th position, Albon seems to be capable of outstanding performances when the opportunity arises.
If Aston Martin, notably Sebastian Vettel, seem to be doing much better in the last two races, the same cannot be said for Haas, who hasn’t been able to score any points for many Grand Prix. And what if Williams manages to get back in the game and no longer be the underachiever of the grid by the end of the year?
