Before Montreal, how many points are left on the F1 drivers’ licenses?
At the dawn of the ninth round of the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship, let's take stock of everyone's penalty points.

Each penalty against a driver can result in penalty points on their license. After accumulating 12 points within a rolling 12-month period, the driver is excluded from the next race. The points are automatically cleared exactly one year after they were awarded.

The translation would be:
5/12 – Max Verstappen / Yuki Tsunoda / Lance Stroll
Max Verstappen made some mistakes last year in his battle against Lewis Hamilton, including 2 for the Monza accident, and 2 for the “brake-test” in Jeddah. The other 3 points came from a track exit in Jeddah and a failure to slow down under double yellow flags in Qatar. His next points will expire on September 12, 2022.
Yuki Tsunoda was deemed responsible for two collisions, each resulting in the deduction of two points: one in Brazil and one in Jeddah. The last three points were due to crossing lines on two consecutive occasions in Australia, and one additional point for impeding a driver during qualifying. He will lose another point soon, on June 26, 2022.
Lance Stroll has accumulated 3 accidents with 2 penalty points on his license: Hungary at the start, Russia and Australia, in qualifying against Latifi. His last point was also given to him in Australia, following a second change of direction during braking.
7/12 – Sergio Perez / Fernando Alonso / Valtteri Bottas
The Mexican driver inherited 4 penalty points at the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix after pushing Leclerc off the track on 2 consecutive occasions. Another point was given to him in Monza for cutting the track. He will have 4 points relieved next month, on July 4th, 2022.
Fernando Alonso has also been guilty in two collisions, two points each, the first one in Turkey with Schumacher, and the second one in Miami. The last point on his license also dates back to Miami, after he left the track and gained an advantage. His next point will expire on October 10, 2022.
Valtteri Bottas was given two penalty points on his license following his spin in the pit lane in Styria last year. He was deemed responsible for the major crash at the Hungarian Grand Prix, and adds to it with another point in Qatar for ignoring yellow flags. He will recover one point on June 27th.
8/12 – Esteban Ocon / Pierre Gasly / Alexander Albon / Nicholas Latifi
On the 8th of December, Esteban Ocon, Pierre Gasly, Alexander Albon, and Nicholas Latifi.
Ocon has been responsible for collisions on 3 occasions, with 1 penalty point for the one in Italy, 2 for the one in Bahrain, and one last one for the collision with Hamilton in Monaco. His next penalty point expires on October 10th.
Pierre Gasly also scored points following two accidents: one in Turkey, the second one in Barcelona. 2 points each, with the ones from Turkey expiring at the same time as Ocon’s.
Since his return this year, the Thai driver has already acquired 5 points, including 2 following a collision in Jeddah. The other 2 points are due to track limit violations in Barcelona and Monaco. It will be necessary to wait until 2023 for him to be able to recover points.
Despite its bad reputation, the Canadian team is not doing too bad, with only 4 penalty points to their name. They received 3 points at the Austrian Grand Prix in 2022 after failing to respect the double yellow flags at turn 5 during the race. Their 4th point was given at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix following an incident with Pierre Gasly, where Latifi ignored the blue flags for several turns before letting the Frenchman pass.
10/12 – Lewis Hamilton / Daniel Ricciardo / Lando Norris / Kevin Magnussen
In English, it would be: 10/12 – Lewis Hamilton / Daniel Ricciardo / Lando Norris / Kevin Magnussen.
Lewis Hamilton loses his two points from his collision with Max Verstappen during the 2021 British Grand Prix, a fateful moment in the championship race. He will regain his points on July 18, 2022.
Daniel Ricciardo blocked an opponent in qualifying in Jeddah, resulting in a penalty point for him. He also cut the track and gained an advantage in Miami, earning an additional point on his license. His point expires on March 25, 2023.
Lando Norris goes from 5 to 2 points, with his remaining two points being taken away from him on July 4th. He received them for pushing Sergio Perez off the track in Austria.
Kevin Magnussen scores two points on his return to F1 for causing a collision at the Miami Grand Prix. He will have to wait until May 8th to start from scratch, if no further penalties occur.
11/12 – George Russell / Guanyu Zhou / Sebastian Vettel
George Russell was found guilty of a collision with Sainz during last year’s Silverstone Sprint, and he will only receive one penalty point which will expire on July 17th.
Guanyu Zhou has as many penalty points as championship points, which he owes to an overtaking outside of the track limits in Saudi Arabia, a point he will regain on March 26th.
Sebastian Vettel hindered his former rival in qualifying in Austria, he will inherit a point that will be taken away from him on July 3, 2022.
