Canadian Grand Prix – Presentation and Predictions

After a season start under the sign of the prancing horse, reliability now gives a clear advantage to the Austrian bull. One week after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Formula 1 arrives in Montreal for the ninth round of the season. Motors Inside presents the race and gives you its predictions.

It’s a complete layout. This weekend, the drivers will compete on a Gilles Villeneuve circuit, which combines slow and narrow turns with long straight lines. It is therefore very demanding on brakes, gearboxes, and also engines due to the many accelerations. The track measures 4.361km and has 14 turns.

A low abrasive track, Pirelli brings soft tires.

The Italian manufacturer has decided to bring its set of softest tires. Indeed, even though there are multiple restarts, the track, which is slightly abrasive, does not overly consume tires. The degradation of these tires is similar to what can be observed on slower urban tracks, so the choice will range from the C3, the hardest, to the C5, the softest.

The predictions of the editorial staff

If the last races leave little doubt about Red Bull’s dominance, the Canadian track is regularly the scene of twists and turns. Especially when some drivers too optimistic on their last braking come close to or crash into the famous Wall of Champions.

Rain is expected to make its appearance and could shake things up. A bit like in Monaco, or even similar to the highly eventful race in 2011, as mentioned in the Highlights of the Canadian Grand Prix.

Regarding qualifications, the Ferrari is still considered the car to beat. However, overall in the race, the trend is reversing and points to a victory for a Red Bull driver. As for the rest of the podium, the Ferraris may not necessarily have a strong showing. Russell continues to impress and remains popular among bettors.

The Red Bull can maneuver effectively in curves without loading up on aerodynamics. This will be a major advantage in qualifying, but even more so in the race when it comes to overtaking or simply defending its position.

On the other hand, the Ferrari engine provides enough power to drive a little more loaded and compensate for the slight chassis deficit compared to Red Bull cars. However, the recurring reliability issues may push the teams powered by the prancing horse to reduce their performance.

Here are the predictions from the editorial team.
