Leclerc on probation in Montreal, Tsunoda penalized
While we were expecting a penalty for changing the turbo for Charles Leclerc, it is ultimately Yuki Tsunoda who will move back 10 positions on the starting grid.

It was to be feared. After the reliability issues encountered by Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari during the Spanish and Azerbaijan Grand Prix, changes were going to have to be made to the power unit of the Monegasque driver’s car.
The Italian team has therefore decided to integrate a new thermal engine, but for now the Monegasque is still using his third turbo. This is the third thermal engine used by Leclerc, so he is not penalized.
It’s Yuki Tsunoda who has to change his engine for the fourth time and will incur a 10-place grid penalty.
As a reminder, the turbo-hybrid V6 engines used in Formula 1 are composed of six elements:
– le moteur thermique
– le moteur générateur cinétique (MGU-K)
– le moteur générateur thermique (MGU-H)
– la batterie
– le turbo
– le boîtier de contrôle électronique
Each driver has the possibility to use 3 thermal engines, 3 MGU-Ks, 3 MGU-Hs, 3 turbos, 2 batteries, and 2 electronic control units during the season. At the first infringement, the concerned driver will receive a ten-place penalty on the grid. This is the case for Leclerc as he will be using his fourth turbo in Montreal.
On the first change of an element, the driver incurs a ten-place penalty, then the penalty is reduced to five places.
The single-seaters have not yet set foot on the asphalt of the Gilles Villeneuve circuit when a major twist has already taken place for the rest of this Canadian weekend.
