Max Verstappen is one of those talents that are rarely seen in Formula 1. Since winning the world championship title last year against Lewis Hamilton, the Dutchman has understandably moved to another level. His partnership with Red Bull seems more fruitful than ever, and at only 24 years old, he is fighting to secure his second crown.

Because for this season that marks a revolution for the premier category, Red Bull still has a car to chase victories every weekend. And even if Sergio Pérez is closer to the Dutchman than last year, Verstappen’s consistency shows that he is above the rest.

But despite the fact that he dominates the championship, especially after the difficulties Ferrari has experienced in the recent races, his father Jos sees a specific point on which Max could improve. The only thing that is still missing is qualification, declares the former Arrows Formula 1 driver. On Saturday in Baku, you could see his frustration during the interview after the session because he still doesn’t do it the way he wants.

Indeed, this season, Max Verstappen was beaten three times in qualifying by his teammate Sergio Pérez: in Jeddah, in Monaco, and in Baku, three urban circuits.

With this slight deficit in qualifications at times, Max Verstappen is still imperial when the opportunity arises. Before the Canadian Grand Prix, he has a 34-point lead over his main rival Charles Leclerc. This gap could widen even further since the Monegasque will start from at least the middle of the grid this Sunday, as he has been penalized with a ten-place grid penalty in Montreal.
