Grosjean disagrees with the penalty imposed on Alonso at the end of the race
Fernando Alonso was demoted from 7th to 9th place after the completion of the Canadian Grand Prix due to a penalty. Romain Grosjean believes that this penalty was somewhat harsh.

Fernando Alonso was very impressive on the Montreal circuit all weekend before the race. As a bonus, in the qualifying session, the Alpine driver managed to secure a spot on the front row, finishing 2nd, just behind Max Verstappen.
But his race was much more complicated and the Spaniard couldn’t bring back an excellent result despite his very good position on the grid. Finishing initially in 7th position, the “Bull of Asturias” was later demoted to 9th place after receiving a five-second penalty for zigzagging in the final lap while defending his position.
In his post-race debrief on his YouTube channel, former Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean nevertheless found the race of the Spaniard interesting. Alonso had an interesting strategy on Sunday. […] He was perhaps one of the only drivers who could attempt a one-stop strategy, if there hadn’t been the virtual safety car and the safety car later in the race.
The Frenchman then declared that he did not agree with the penalty given to Alonso at the end of the race and later explained the reasons for it. He received a five-second penalty at the end. I do not agree with this penalty. Yes, he may have moved twice in the straight line, but first of all, the straight line is not straight, so it’s not easy to go completely straight, explains Grosjean.
« Secondly, let them run! Let them fight, let them defend, let them go. It’s good to have rules, but don’t overdo it. Five seconds weren’t worth it for them. That’s my opinion. Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s how I feel. »
Anyway, Fernando Alonso lost valuable points to the Alfa Romeo team, who have thus surpassed him in the race rankings.
