Madrid is positioning itself to host a Grand Prix in the future
The Community of Madrid has expressed its desire to host Formula 1 in the coming years. The president's advisor, Enrique Lopez, has sent a letter to Stefano Domenicali.

And what if Formula 1 went to Madrid in the years to come? The Spanish capital has submitted an official request to the sport’s governing bodies in an effort to host a race in the upcoming years.
The chief advisor of the Presidency of the Community of Madrid, Enrique Lopez, has sent a letter to Stefano Domenicali, the boss of Formula 1, to express the interest of the capital in hosting the premier category.
It is with pleasure that I am writing to you on behalf of the government of the Community of Madrid to express our interest in the development of a Formula 1 Grand Prix in Madrid, wrote Enrique Lopez.
(I believe that hosting a car racing event in Madrid, which is one of the most exciting sports phenomena of our time, would be a success for all professionals, institutions, and companies involved in the development of Formula 1. Of course, it would also be satisfying for the entire region and its citizens. That is why the Government of the Community of Madrid has the greatest interest in making it possible), he continues.
In short, I would like to confirm our commitment to you and to this project, as well as our willingness to sign the appropriate agreements to promote the race and provide a great sports and entertainment spectacle. We are ready to work with you and your team to bring Formula 1 to Madrid, concludes the advisor to the President of the Community of Madrid.

Formula 1 has been coming to Barcelona at the Catalunya circuit since 1991. However, this season, the management of the Grand Prix by the organizers had been deemed unacceptable by F1. Although the Catalan track remains contracted until 2026, Madrid could make its entry onto the calendar to possibly offer a new urban circuit on the calendar.
However, Formula 1 has not yet commented on this appeal from the Madrid political decision-makers. It should be kept in mind that the calendar will not be able to accommodate more than 24 races at this time, according to the Concorde agreements. As demands continue to increase and the Kyalami circuit is nearing a return, it seems highly unlikely to see Madrid on the calendar as early as 2023.
