AlphaTauri is delighted with Yuki Tsunoda’s progress
Yuki Tsunoda's season is starting much better than his previous one. For AlphaTauri, a big step has been taken and the Japanese driver is now getting much closer to his teammate Pierre Gasly.

In 2021, Yuki Tsunoda’s rookie season did not meet his team’s expectations. He finished far behind his teammate Pierre Gasly. The young Japanese driver had developed a bad reputation, with a strong temper on the radio and driving skills that were quite below the level of a Formula 1 driver.
However, his 4th place at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2021 seemed to bode well for the future. Indeed, in this early part of the 2022 season, Tsunoda is much more comfortable in his car and has closed the gap with Pierre Gasly’s pace.
Yuki has taken a big step forward compared to last year. He has more experience, he knows the tracks, he knows his engineers and mechanics, so the relationship is constantly improving,” explained Guillaume Dezoteux, Performance Manager at AlphaTauri.
Of course, he has made a lot of progress since last year, and now he is capable of being more consistent, his returns have greatly improved, his engineers understand what he needs to go fast. And he has gotten closer to Pierre [Gasly], which is very positive because it also pushes Pierre, so I am really happy with the situation now,” adds Dezoteux.
Yuki Tsunoda is currently in 15th place in the drivers’ championship after nine races, but only 5 points behind Pierre Gasly, whereas the gap was 31 points at the same time last season.
