Albon is disappointed with the lack of developments at Williams

After nine Grand Prix races, Alex Albon is expecting more improvements on his Williams, as the rest of the grid has already brought numerous developments. A major update for the FW44 is scheduled to arrive this weekend at Silverstone.

The start of the season is difficult for Williams. The iconic British team had high hopes for 2022 to make a comeback after several seasons finishing at the bottom of the standings. But the improvement seen in 2021 (8th place in the standings with a podium for Russell) has not been confirmed this year. After nine races, the team led by Frank Williams only has three small points, all scored by Alex Albon.

The Thai driver, loaned by Red Bull, is having a very strong start to the season despite a challenging car. However, he is far from satisfied with the limited points he has scored and urges his team to double down on efforts to improve the FW44.

(e) Everyone is evolving. We haven’t had a major update in a while. The balance is not fully achieved yet. We don’t think we can solve this problem with updates either. Most of the issues are primarily due to the car’s characteristics in turns. » explains Alex Albon.

Expected improvement in England

Williams plans to bring a major update to their car at Silverstone this weekend, which Albon eagerly awaits.

« Hopefully the update will bring improvements, but for now, it’s still very difficult. It also depends on the track. In Canada, you have very fast turns, but then it’s difficult to find a good compromise for the entire lap. » continued the Thai.

Despite the lack of potential in his car, Albon’s impressive performances should allow him to keep his seat at Williams next season. However, the seat of his teammate Nicholas Latifi is much more threatened, and there is now no doubt about his replacement by Oscar Piastri, the reigning F2 champion.
