Wolff remains cautious about Mercedes’ performance ahead of Silverstone
Before the British Grand Prix on the Silverstone circuit, a track that historically pleases Mercedes, Toto Wolff believes that there is still a long way to go for the Silver Arrows.

This season, for the first time since 2014, Mercedes can no longer challenge for victories in a straightforward manner. While the W13 is firmly established as the third force on the grid, the gap between the Silver Arrows and the two leading teams, Ferrari and Red Bull, is immense.
If a Mercedes comeback to the forefront still seemed possible after a few races, the halfway point of the season will soon be crossed and a Mercedes presence to contend for victories seems unlikely for some time.
This weekend takes place the British Grand Prix, on a track where Mercedes has historically always performed well. But despite the progress shown in the last races, Toto Wolff remains cautious and believes that there is still a lot of work to be done.
« Canada was our fifth podium of the season and we were happy to score big points. While we can be happy with the flashes of speed shown by the W13, there is still a mountain to climb, says Wolff.
If improvements have been confirmed on the W13 this weekend, victory is still very unlikely in this British race. We know that the two leading teams have a considerable advantage. Our challenge is to close this gap. Silverstone has been good for us in the past. We have some improvements coming and it’s a smoother track. We are aiming for another step forward.
The objective is therefore in line with the beginning of the season at Silverstone for Toto Wolff and his team: to continue accumulating track time in order to bring significant improvements. No surprise, victory is still not an immediate objective for Mercedes.
