Max Verstappen did his best to limit the damage
Max Verstappen finished 7th at Silverstone, a disappointing result but without major consequences.

Still leading the championship, Verstappen would have hoped for a better result at Silverstone. After leading the Grand Prix twice, his hopes of victory were cut short due to a failure in his car.
The Dutchman finishes 7th, while Sergio Perez and Leclerc finish 2nd and 4th respectively. A minor setback for Verstappen, who maintains a 34-point lead over his closest competitor in the championship.
Verstappen reflects on what happened during the race and explains his thoughts: “I think the first few laps of the race were good, I had a good pace and I was chasing Carlos [Sainz], then he made a mistake and I was able to pass him and take the lead.”
But a few turns later, there was a large piece of carbon on the track in turn 5 and at that moment I couldn’t avoid it and I tried to move from left to right, but it went under the floor and completely destroyed the entire left side underneath. So, from there I lost a lot of time. I felt like I had a puncture because I no longer had balance and the car was moving a lot.
The car was really impossible to drive, so I tried to do the best I could, and I think thanks to the safety car [deployed due to Esteban Ocon’s abandonment], we gained some positions, so we managed to limit the damage. I tried everything with the car I had, and obviously it’s not what I want [a seventh place], but sometimes you have this kind of unlucky race.
Verstappen will have the heart to redeem himself next weekend in Austria, as he has often achieved excellent results on this circuit in front of his fans.
