Finally! For his 31st start in the premier category of motorsport, Mick Schumacher scored his first points with an eighth-place finish at the 2022 British Grand Prix. This marks the sixth longest wait for a driver to score in the championship. This result allows him to climb to 17th place in the standings ahead of Alexander Albon, Lance Stroll, and Nicholas Latifi.

With this result, Mick Schumacher becomes the third member of his family to score points in the history of F1 after his father Michael and his uncle Ralf. The Red Baron holds one of the most impressive track records in the history of the sport with seven world championship titles, 91 victories, and 68 pole positions with Benetton, Mercedes, and especially Ferrari.

In the shadow of his brother for a large part of his career, Ralf Schumacher nonetheless managed to win six Grand Prix victories at the beginning of the century, all achieved with Williams-BMW. He can also boast of obtaining six pole positions during a career spanning eleven seasons.

After the Fittipaldi…

The Schumachers are not the first to achieve such a feat. Before them, another illustrious family in motorsport had the luxury of placing three of its members in the points in Formula 1. World champion in 1972 and 1974, Emerson Fittipaldi is the one who engraved this legendary name in history. Winner of 14 Grand Prix races behind the wheel of the fantastic Lotus 72 and McLaren M23, the Brazilian will forever be the first ‘auriverde’ driver to be crowned world champion in the history of the sport.

His older brother Wilson will not have had the same success. In 35 Grand Prix, the paulista managed to score only three small points in three seasons in the mid-70s, while his brother shined at the top of the podiums. Two decades later, Wilson’s son and Emerson’s nephew, Christian Fittipaldi, will have 12 points to his name.

Note that in the case of the Schumachers, only Mick has not yet won a Grand Prix. If he succeeds, the German family will be the only one to have three of its members as Formula 1 winners. As a side note, the Haas F1 driver is the 347th driver to score points in the history of F1. « 3 » like the third Schumacher, and « 47 » like the race number of the 23-year-old driver!
