At the wheel of a single-seater lacking pace, the mistakes of the Normand earned him a 15th position at the end of this Austrian Grand Prix.

Starting from the 14th position after a complicated sprint race, Pierre Gasly managed to avoid collisions at the start of the main race to gain two positions. The AlphaTauri driver was now chasing Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin in 12th place. While the beginning of the race looked promising for Gasly, what happened next was a long descent into hell.

After his first pit stop, the Frenchman was penalized with a 5-second penalty for exceeding the track limits too many times. A silly mistake that nearly condemned him to finish outside the points in such a tightly packed midfield.

Fighting with Sebastian Vettel, Pierre Gasly collided with the Aston Martin driver on the 40th lap of the race. While trying to overtake on the outside of turn number 4, the French driver understeered into the German driver. Another mistake that cost him an additional 5-second penalty.

I try to do what I can in the car, I try to give it my all no matter the position. But it’s true that fighting for a 15th position is not very exciting.

Lacking severely in pace to climb up in the field, Pierre Gasly finished in 15th position in this Austrian Grand Prix.

It has been an extremely difficult weekend and I can’t wait to go to the French Grand Prix with the improvements we will have on the car.
