The role of Micheal Masi within the FIA has been greatly disrupted since this winter 2021. Firstly replaced by Niels Wittich and Eduardo Freitas as race directors and moved to another unspecified position within the FIA, today the FIA announced Masi’s departure, of his own accord.

In a statement from the FIA, the organization explains that Masi has decided to leave for Australia to live close to his family and take part in new challenges.

Masi’s career as a race director began in 2019 following the tragic death of Charlie Whiting. Arbitrary decisions during the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix created a real scandal in the paddocks. The FIA later acknowledged that human errors had been made and decided to replace Masi with two new race directors in 2022.

He has managed the positions of Formula 1 race director and safety delegate at the FIA for three years with dedication and utmost professionalism. The FIA thanks him and wishes him the best. » concludes the statement.
