Aston Martin is still in negotiations with Vettel for 2023
Sebastian Vettel's contract with Aston Martin ends at the end of the 2022 season, and no extension has been officially announced yet. Aston Martin assures that negotiations are underway.

Sebastian Vettel joined the Aston Martin team for the 2021 season after leaving Ferrari. His time with the British team has not been easy, and results are still awaited despite a podium finish in 2021. The team doesn’t seem capable of providing Vettel with a sufficiently performing car for him to bring in big results. However, the German’s results this season are much better than those of his teammate Lance Stroll.
This dominance of Vettel within the team can work in his favor. In fact, regarding the extension of the four-time World Champion, Mike Krack, Aston Martin’s director, has reiterated his desire to keep Vettel within his team: “Well, we are in negotiations. Sebastian is very, very positive, very constructive, so from this perspective, I really hope that we can continue [together].”
Moreover, maybe the investment he made now over the course of two years, he should maybe be able to benefit from it and not give it to someone else later. But we are confident that we can make it a success with the discussions we have.
A complicated situation for Aston Martin in 2022.
Aston Martin Lawrence Stroll, the owner of Aston Martin, set the goal of fighting at the front in 2022. However, the car built by his team is not performing well enough to consistently score points, which has led to Aston Martin being stuck in 9th place in the championship, behind AlphaTauri and Haas. On this matter, Mike Krack also has something to say: “I think we really need to commend our two drivers for the way they handle this, and how constructive they are with us. There are no swear words, nothing at all. We’re trying to do this together, trying to get through it together, and they give us very good feedback.”
It would be easy for them to be frustrated, but that’s not the case. Lance and Sebastian are very constructive in all the meetings and you can’t feel any lack of motivation in the current situation.
Vettel’s situation still seems uncertain. His name is currently being mentioned at McLaren as a replacement for Ricciardo. As for Lance Stroll, his position at his father’s team is hanging by a thread.
