Hamilton believes that Alonso is his strongest rival, excluding Verstappen
Lewis Hamilton, who will celebrate his 300th Grand Prix this weekend in France, has revealed the name of the driver who has given him the most challenge in Formula 1.

With a career that began in 2007, Lewis Hamilton has crossed paths with numerous drivers on the tracks of the Formula 1 World Championship. From his very first season, the Mercedes driver had to battle with Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen, only to ultimately fall short and finish in second place in the world championship.
At the beginning of the 2010s decade, the Stevenage native had to face his teammate Jenson Button at McLaren as well as the formidable Red Bulls of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. Starting in 2014 with Mercedes’ dominance, Hamilton had to confront his childhood friend Nico Rosberg, who managed to win the championship in 2016 after a fierce battle.
Finally, in 2021, number 44 battled against Max Verstappen throughout the season until the crazy finale in Abu Dhabi. This duel was notably marked by two collisions between the two drivers at Silverstone and Monza.
Among all these names, the one that Hamilton considers to be the strongest is his first teammate in Formula 1, Fernando Alonso. « It’s difficult to say who my strongest rival has been. If we’re talking about pure speed, I think it’s Fernando, also because of his skills. »
We had some great battles. I hope he will still be here next season and that we can fight again in the future. A strong tribute from the British which will undoubtedly please the Alpine driver.
