Binotto wishes for a double in Budapest

The French Grand Prix was disastrous for Ferrari, with Charles Leclerc retiring and Carlos Sainz getting a penalty. This weekend, in Hungary, the Scuderia intends to make a strong comeback.

So many points lost, so many missed opportunities… Charles Leclerc, who made a mistake at Le Castellet, let slip away 25 points to Max Verstappen. The latter, barring a catastrophe, won’t have to force fate to secure his second world title.

However, there is no despair at Ferrari. Charles Leclerc is on the same level as Max Verstappen in terms of sheer speed… but not in the task of playing for a championship. Carlos Sainz, on the other hand, did his best after two penalties during the weekend.

Mattia Binotto has a very clear idea of what he wants in Budapest. « We need to turn the page on what happened at Paul Ricard and move forward. At the Hungaroring, it will be very hot again, and the tire factor will be important once again. »

A circuit tailored for the Reds?

Contrary to the Castellet, the Hungaroring is a slow circuit where top speed is much less important. In theory, it should be a track more suited to Ferrari, slower in terms of top speed, but more agile than the Red Bull.

All these reasons make us have to keep smiling, because our goal in Hungary is nothing other than a double, affirms Binotto.

As for Charles Leclerc’s off-track excursion, the Italian team manager explains that his accelerator pedal issues occurred when he wanted to switch into reverse gear before concluding that he will learn from it, that’s for sure.
