Charles Leclerc: « I still believe in the championship
While there are still nine races left on the schedule, the gap between Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen appears impossible to close. However, the Monegasque does not want to lose hope, as the season comes to an end.

Upon returning from vacation, Charles Leclerc finds himself 80 points behind Max Verstappen, who seems unstoppable in all conditions. This gap represents three wins, three fastest laps in the race, and a ninth place. It would therefore take a catastrophe for the Dutchman to lose the championship title, with nine rounds remaining.
The first races gave Charles Leclerc emotional ups and downs, with wins, retirements and mishaps. This first part of the season was filled with many highs and lows, he tells in a press conference. I really needed this break to recharge and enjoy my family.
« We will take the groceries one by one. »
Nine innings to make up 80 points will require nothing more than a victory, except for one or more retirements from Max Verstappen. « We will take the races one by one, but I still believe in the championship » adds N°16.
In order to beat Red Bull in the championship, we will need to put together perfect weekends. There is a very small gap between Red Bull and us. Sometimes they are ahead, other times it’s us. The difference will be made on a perfect weekend, as Leclerc assures.
He was reminded of Sebastian Vettel’s feat in 2013: that of achieving nine consecutive victories at the restart of the championship. What better circuit for this than Spa, where the Ferrari driver clinched his first victory three years ago? It would be a fitting tribute to his friend Anthoine Hubert, who tragically passed away at the top of Raidillon, and an excellent way to restart his season.
