Official: Alfa Romeo and Sauber will end their collaboration by the end of 2023

The partnership between the Italian brand and the Swiss team will come to an end at the end of the next season. This departure leaves the door wide open for Audi, which has just announced its arrival in F1 starting in 2026, to Hinwill.

The puzzle is slowly coming together. After the announcement of Audi’s arrival in Formula 1 from the 2026 season, Alfa Romeo has just confirmed its departure from the sport starting from the end of 2023.

It is through a press release that the brand of the Stellantis group announced the news:

Alfa Romeo announces that its partnership with Sauber Motorsport will come to an end in late 2023.

Alfa Romeo announced its return to F1 in 2017 with a long-term plan, and in July 2022 announced the decision to continue its partnership with Sauber for 2023 as well, considering the promising results of the first half of the season, both in terms of performance, marketing, and positive collaboration with the team.

Since the economic and industrial recovery of the brand will be achieved in 2022, Alfa Romeo will now assess the numerous opportunities on the table and decide which one will be the best to support the long-term strategy and positioning of the brand.

This announcement thus marks the end of an adventure that saw Charles Leclerc debut in F1 in 2018, Kimi Räikkönen end his career in 2021, and Guanyu Zhou become the first Chinese driver to secure a seat in Formula 1 in 2022.

It remains to be known what name the Swiss structure will bear for the 2024 and 2025 seasons before Audi, most likely, becomes the main partner of the team founded by Peter Sauber from 2026.
