There had been a baptism in honor of the 55th anniversary of Mercedes’ performance subsidiary, AMG: the Mercedes 300 SEL 6.8 AMG, winner of the 24 Hours of Spa in 1971, was accompanied by the AMG One and the AMG GT3.

The spectators present in the Fanzone caught a glimpse of a German car with very special colors: the back of the car kept its traditional silver gray, but the front part had the red color of the 300 SEL. One could have imagined that Lewis Hamilton and George Russell would be driving it.

There was nothing of it: the W13 only received special number tributes on the front of the pontoons.

The explanation for the absence of this special livery was given by Toto Wolff, the boss of the Mercedes team: « We have three consecutive races starting from Belgium, so we couldn’t have left the sticker every time. Moreover, a change in color would have caused us weight issues.

The Silver Arrows remained faithful to their colors… but the Grand Prix didn’t bring them as much success.
