Alonso apologizes for his comments about Hamilton
Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton had clashed on the first lap of the Belgian Grand Prix, which had provoked fury from the Spaniard on the radio. He wants to apologize for the words he used.

« What an idiot! This guy can only drive when he’s in first place.
» Those were the words of Fernando Alonso, after being blocked by Lewis Hamilton at the Combes corner in Spa.
The British driver took off on the left front wheel of the Alpine and had to retire afterwards. Alonso was furious because he had made a lightning start from 3rd place.
On Thursday in Zandvoort, during a press conference, N°14 confessed that these words came out in the heat of the moment towards his former teammate at McLaren. Lewis is a great champion, one of the greatest of our time, said the Alpine driver. If you say these kinds of things to a Briton, the media will not waste any time reacting! Whereas when it’s said about a Latin driver, things are taken a bit more lightly.
The importance of radio transmissions
The first to benefit from Fernando Alonso’s spicy remarks were, of course, the viewers, not to mention the journalists in the press room.
The Spanishman is counting on the presence of television to publicly apologize to the seven-time world champion.
“I will take advantage of the televised conference to see him and apologize to him,” he said on Thursday. “I have absolutely no problem with Lewis and I have great respect for him.”
When asked if he was against the broadcast of radio exchanges, Alonso answered in the negative. “It’s not the only sport, like football and others, that we can keep everything to ourselves. We must always be prepared for it. But next time, I will be quieter!” he laughed.
