A Lewis Hamilton fan pretends to have cancer and visits the Mercedes F1 factory
Sordid story. A Lewis Hamilton fan pretended to be dying before being exposed by acquaintances and then denounced on social media. He still managed to get his picture taken. Let's look back on this unusual but very sordid story.
We are last year, in March 2022. A tweet from an account named CenturionLewis says: « Quick update: My cancer has not decreased and has started spreading in my body. I had emergency radiation treatments and came back home with major issues and now hospitalized, potentially surgery should happen. Thank you all for your support, I love you.”
This viral tweet quickly reached the ears of Mercedes.
Thus, on July 19th, 2022, the account of CenturionLewis tweets a new message, this time much more joyful: « I’M GOING TO BRACKLEY 🥹 Thank you so much @MercedesAMGF, you are truly the most incredible people and I love you even more now❤️ ».
The tweet even shares the message exchanged in the personal inbox of the Community Manager of Mercedes: « No worries. The reason we are asking is to know if you will feel well enough to come and visit our Brackley factory next weekend during the Hungarian Grand Prix, either on Saturday or Sunday. We would arrange the transfer from your house and back to ensure it is as comfortable as possible for you. However, if it is not possible or if you do not feel physically up for it, we would understand. »
Liam then goes to the Brackley factory to visit the facilities. He even gets his photo taken by Mercedes, who doesn’t yet imagine the deception. However, two days later, a tweet comes to shake up the Mercedes fan community on Twitter. CenturionLewis is said to have passed away, as his health deteriorated rapidly.
Hello everyone, I wanted to inform you that CenturionLewis passed away peacefully tonight as his health had recently greatly declined. He asked me to let you know. I’m sorry it’s not better news. One of the last things he said was that everyone should spread love around them.
The man behind this account, aged 28, spends his days at the hospital and is actually not deceased. He is indeed employed at Ipswich Hospital, about a hundred kilometers east of London. He is in good health and has therefore decided to pretend to be sick in order to quickly gain compassion and visibility on social media.
It is another Twitter account, CytrusF1, that revealed the deception on its account. It explains that it has found the author of these comments and that he is alive and well, proving it with a screenshot of their conversations where we can clearly see the person pictured at the factory.
