The same settings as in Spa for Williams

During the Italian Grand Prix, Williams could race with similar settings to those at Spa. They managed to score 1 point by finishing 10th through Albon.

With a strong performance at the Spa Grand Prix, Williams should take inspiration from the adjustments made in Belgium for the Italian Grand Prix. Albon had a successful qualifying session starting from 6th position and finished 10th in the race.

The similarities between the Monza and Spa circuits are the reasons for this choice. Long straight sections are present on both circuits and Williams would like to take advantage of them.

They would even like to improve the cars a bit to go even faster than at Spa. The wings will then be even finer than at Spa, according to Williams’ performance manager, Robson. The idea would be to reduce vehicle drag.

« We have some options to further reduce the drag compared to Spa. We will wait and see what people will do and if we will still have an advantage on the straight. But if we can reduce the drag and exit the Parabolica reasonably, then I think we will be looking to do it again.

But according to Robson, top speed performance at Spa wasn’t the main goal. They were first looking to make the necessary adjustments for the best possible lap time.

« Our top speed compared to the others is obviously what helped us in the race, but we did not choose these settings specifically for top speed. We made what we thought was the best choice for lap time. »

We wanted to be fast in a straight line because we knew we would inherit some positions due to engine penalties, but that wasn’t our main motivation for the car setup.

Williams can hope for a similar outcome in Monza as they had in Spa for the Grand Prix. Winning a few points would be beneficial for the constructor, who has been struggling in this championship with only 4 small points won since the beginning of the season.
