Jost Capito continues to defend Nicholas Latifi despite the criticisms
Despite the increasing pressure to sign Nyck de Vries after his performances in Monza, Williams boss Jost Capito is defending Nicholas Latifi, who is said to be under more pressure than the Dutchman.

Despite the increasingly loud calls to make way for Nyck de Vries within the Williams team as a replacement for the Canadian, boss Jost Capito does not intend to get rid of the latter so quickly. In an interview with Sky Sports, he emphasized the pressure that weighs on Nicholas Latifi, which he believes is stronger than the pressure faced by Nyck de Vries.
(I) I think it’s normal pressure for a racing driver, isn’t it? You always have to be better than your teammates. I believe the pressure on Nikki [Latifi] is a bit higher than on Nyck. Because he is in the car all year round, and then Nyck sets the bar knowing that he just hopped in, so the pressure is less for him », said the Williams boss.
He always wishes to give Nicholas Latifi a chance to prove that he deserves to stay in F1 next year: “I think he needs to show his potential,” he said, referring to the recent races.

Jost Capito also highlights a lack of confidence in the Canadian driver after his accident in Abu Dhabi last year, for which he was heavily criticized on social media, as it was the starting point for the Safety Car’s deployment and the outcome of the 2021 season that we know.
“We had to give him confidence. We told him that there was nothing wrong, that everything was fine,” declares the CEO of the British team, referring to a scar for the one who wears number 6.”
Jost Capito repeated that he was not in a hurry to make a decision about the lucky chosen one who will drive for Williams next year. Even if it could cost him a very promising Nyck de Vries, who is also being sought after by other teams.
