While “Mr. Consistency,” as some now call him, is impressive in his first season with Mercedes – seven podium finishes and a fourth place in the world championship with 203 points – George Russell probably didn’t arrive in the best year for the German team.

After eight consecutive triumphs at the Formula 1 championship, Mercedes still hasn’t been able to secure a victory this year. It’s a huge disappointment for everyone, including the British driver. George Russell already has his sights set on 2023 and is confident about the direction the team is taking for the development of the 2023 car.

« I am convinced that the direction we need to take is the right one. We have a philosophy that we are trying to adopt in our development, and I am convinced that it is the right one », stated the Mercedes driver during a press briefing in Singapore. « But that doesn’t mean that we can necessarily achieve it. We have a goal, and that is a huge positive point in itself. As I said, we have a clear goal that we are trying to pursue », he temporizes.

The Briton stated that the team was able to fix numerous issues on the car for 2023, notably the infamous porpoising, thanks to the data collected by the W13 on various circuits, and they are now capable of bringing something competitive next season.

“I am convinced that we can do it,” he said on the matter. “We obviously don’t know how much the other rivals will improve this winter. But I am convinced that we will have a more complete car on all circuits in 2023.”

Note that it is the other Mercedes driver, <a href="/f1/news/28580-singapore-grand-prix-free-practice-1-hamilton-surprise.html" title="Singapore Grand Prix – Free Practice 1: Hamilton surprised!

"Lewis Hamilton, who set the fastest time in the first free practice session this Friday, while George Russell set the 5th fastest time."

"During the second session, George Russell was the third fastest, behind the Ferraris, while Lewis Hamilton finished 5th in the standings. It remains to be seen if the rest of the weekend will be equally profitable for Mercedes."
