The outcome of the race in Singapore was decided right from the start, when Sergio Perez managed to overtake Charles Leclerc. The Mexican then maintained the lead for the remainder of the race, without the Monégasque being able to regain the advantage. A second place for the Ferrari driver and a feeling of being shortchanged after a missed victory. But Max Verstappen’s runner-up wants to look at the bright side.

« Our pace was really good today, so it’s unfortunate to finish second. We had a bit of a slow start and didn’t get off as well as Checo (Perez). That put us on the wrong foot »,” says the Monegasque. « I pushed to put pressure on Checo, but my front tires overheated a bit and he started to pull away. As I’ve said before, I want to use these last few races to improve our performance, and I think we took a step in the right direction today ».”

The boss of Ferrari, Mattia Binotto, does not hide his disappointment: « We are disappointed with today’s race result. We have been chasing a victory for a while now, and we came very close today. That being said, we still gathered a good amount of points with a second and a third place. Overall, (b) it was a challenging weekend to manage, but the car performed well on both dry and wet tracks. Here in Singapore, Ferrari has shown that it has overcome the difficulties of Spa and Zandvoort, and we have been able to regain our performance, which is (b) promising for the upcoming races.
