Max Verstappen equals Schumacher and Vettel’s record of wins in a season

Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher have some common points. Besides being German and both having won at least one Formula 1 world championship, they also share the record for the most wins in a single season: 13 races. This record has just been equalled by Verstappen.

Records are made to be broken. Michael Schumacher, a seven-time world champion, still shares the record for the most driver titles in Formula 1 with Lewis Hamilton, who equaled it in 2020. He also holds another record, that of the most wins in a single season, along with Sebastian Vettel. This record of 13 races has just been matched by Max Verstappen this weekend in Austin.

Max Verstappen has a lot of records, notably records related to his very young arrival in Formula 1. The record for the youngest driver to win a Grand Prix or even the record for being the youngest to win 25 races.

From now on, he has a new record after winning the US Grand Prix this weekend: the record for most wins in a season: 13. Currently, he shares this record with two other world champions, but he could hold it alone if he manages to win another race in the remaining three races this season.

However, be aware that although this record remains impressive, the number of races per season has increased in recent years, and statistically, the chances of winning more races have also increased.

Michael Schumacher won this record in 2004 when there were 18 races on the calendar, compared to 22 this season. Sebastian Vettel, on the other hand, won these 13 races during the 2013 season, which had 19 races.

If Verstappen achieved this feat in 19 races as well, he therefore reaches an equivalent ratio to Sebastian Vettel’s (68% of races won), tied for second place with Michael Schumacher, who had won 72% of races in 2004.
