Bottas surprised by his starting grid position

The Finnish driver once again surprised us during the qualifying session of the Mexican Grand Prix. He will start from the 6th position on the starting grid, sandwiched between the two Ferraris of Sainz and Leclerc. Satisfied with the performance of his car, he felt comfortable during his fast laps. This good result gives hope to Alfa Romeo, who has been struggling to find pace in the race.

Struggling with his car for many race weekends, Valtteri Bottas surprised everyone in this qualifying session for the Mexican Grand Prix. Starting in sixth position on the grid, he managed to place himself between the two Ferraris, a remarkable achievement considering how challenging this season has been for the Swiss team. Initially at the forefront of the season, the Alfa Romeo cars gradually plummeted in the standings.

This excellent qualifying session by the Finnish driver will give him a significant advantage over Alfa Romeo’s main competitors for the 6th place in the constructor’s championship, Aston Martin. Indeed, both cars of the British team are starting from the back of the grid.

Satisfied with his performance, the Alfa Romeo driver did not hide his joy after the qualifications.

It had been a while since we had such a result in qualifying, and I think it’s really good for the whole team. Honestly, it’s an easy car to drive here, it’s really good in corners, and overall, since the first free practice session, I have been confident. We also started the weekend with the right setups and I just needed to fine-tune everything a bit.

But there is no question of getting carried away, the goal is to maximize this good starting position and bring back big points for the championship.

I think we have a good foundation. We saw it during the long relays, the pace is there. I believe that we should – hopefully – be the best in the midfield. All we need is a good, clean first lap, and then we can have a good race.

Alfa Romeo’s ambitions for this Grand Prix are significant, and Bottas wants to be at the forefront.

(b) Based on all the simulations we have done, it seems that we are around sixth or seventh place.
