Mercedes could win the Mexican Grand Prix according to Hamilton and Russell
The pole position for the Mexican Grand Prix was highly contested. Max Verstappen won it by a whisker ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Hamilton. One week after coming close to a first victory this season at the United States Grand Prix, the drivers believe in their chances in Mexico.

Mercedes have shown themselves at the forefront during each practice session, narrowly failing in their quest for the pole position. The German team has invested heavily in order to get closer to the best. New upgrades have notably made their appearance in Austin. Lewis Hamilton was able to win there, with the British champion relinquishing the lead of the race just 6 laps before the end.
George Russell is satisfied with the progress of his car and wants to go for his first victory.
This is our best performance of the year for us, we were the fastest in every session except for Q3 unfortunately. There are a lot of promising things to take away, he said in an interview with Sky Sports F1.
Lewis Hamilton is also delighted with the performance of his car during this qualifying session, stating that there is still a significant room for improvement for the race.
The car performed well this weekend. I had some issues with the engine in Q3, I’m not sure what it was exactly, but I really feel like there was still a lot of time left on the table.
George Russell believes he can secure his team’s first victory this year. The Mexican track, located at high altitude, suits the Silver Arrows well as they experience a smaller difference in top speed compared to the Red Bulls.
I think that this weekend, we had the fastest car and if you have the fastest car, there is no reason why you can’t win the race.
Despite the progress made, the Mercedes driver remains realistic about the possibilities of overtaking Max Verstappen’s Red Bull on the track.
« We can definitely beat Red Bull for sure, but I don’t think we will be able to overtake them on the track. So, we will have to be strategic. I guess Lewis and I will be there, we can be aggressive.
