Gasly, penalized in Mexico, was not informed by the FIA that he had to give up his position

The French driver is annoyed by receiving penalties for the past 3 consecutive Grand Prix and would like to speak with the race commissioners to understand what he should change in his driving. There are only two points left on the AlphaTauri driver's license, and he faces a one-race suspension if these remaining points are taken away.

The Mexican Grand Prix was a solid race for Pierre Gasly, who finished just outside the points after starting from 15th position on the grid. However, what stands out most from his weekend is not as encouraging. Indeed, the Rouen-born driver was once again penalized by the race stewards for making an unauthorized overtaking maneuver on Lance Stroll.

Pierre Gasly had overtaken the Canadian driver by pushing him off the track limits and did not give him back the position afterwards. The French driver was given a 5-second penalty which he served in the pit lane, and 1 point was deducted from his license. Tired of the penalties, he explains that he was not informed by his team on the radio about his illegal overtaking.

“I am a driver, if I see an opening, I will go for it,” he said. “If you’re not happy, tell me to give back the position and I’ll try again. I haven’t been told anything, it’s a shame. The team just needs to say it on the radio, that’s what they’ve done in the past, but not this time. I don’t think the FIA told him to give back the position, otherwise they would have told me on the radio.”

This penalty is even more difficult to swallow because Pierre Gasly cannot score any points because of it, finishing just a few seconds behind Bottas and Norris, who finished 9th and 8th respectively.

We were four seconds short of being ninth, so we know what would have been possible without the penalty.

The repeated penalties tire out AlphaTauri driver who would like to discuss with the commissioners to better understand what hinders them in his driving.

In the end, I’m trying to do my best with the car, and the last thing I want is to lose stupid points and waste race time. Apparently, for now, they’re not satisfied with what I’m doing, so I need to have a discussion to understand exactly what I need to change.
