The Caribbean Grand Prix, a plausible project
While the USA will have three Grand Prix events of its own next year, the Americas is one of the best represented continents, with Brazil, Mexico and, of course, Canada. However, discussions are underway with Colombia for a more unusual Grand Prix: the Caribbean.

South America could soon have an additional Grand Prix. Indeed, Formula 1 is in discussions with a Colombian politician who wishes to create the Caribbean Grand Prix, in the coastal city of Barranquilla.
The exchanges between the two parties are going very well, according to the mayor of Barranquilla, Jaime Pumarejo. Stefano Domenicali was spotted at the city’s airport, heading there for discussions with Jaime Pumarejo and the CEO of the Mexican Grand Prix.
During this discussion about the event, Pumarejo stated that he expects to receive over 300,000 spectators over the race weekend. He also mentioned that the event could appear on the calendar starting from 2024 or 2025 and hopes that it will remain there for 10 years.
He stated on Blu Radio: “Progress has been made in all previous stages before a final decision. That is to say, they have already come to the city, they found it comfortable, and they thought there could be a Grand Prix here, where nature would be one of the most important aspects.”
This project has the objective of economic self-sufficiency, in other words, it will not require any investment from the city or the country. It declares « On the contrary, it would bring employment, tourism, and recognition.
The Formula 1 authorities are often approached by new countries wishing to host the sport on their territory, and the selection process is strict. However, Colombian officials seem to be among the closest to reaching an agreement with Formula 1.
This new Grand Prix would be the first organized in this country, which boasts the talented Juan Pablo Montoya, a rising star in Formula 1 in the 2000s. He won 7 races and stood on the podium 30 times between 2001 and 2006.
