Magnussen to work with Nico Hülkenberg at Haas

The American team's Danish driver would not be opposed to Nico Hülkenberg driving alongside him. Although the two men have had strong altercations in the past, Kevin Magnussen is open to working with the current Aston Martin reserve driver. The latter is expected to replace team-mate Mick Schumacher next season.

Haas has not yet confirmed the two drivers they will field for next season. While Kevin Magnussen is expected to continue driving for Gene Haas’ team in 2023 because he has a multi-year contract with the American entity, the future of his teammate has not been announced yet, and he could leave the team at the end of the season. Mick Schumacher is not meeting Haas’ expectations in terms of results and has been making a lot of mistakes.

To replace the son of the seven-time German world champion, the American team is looking for an experienced driver who could consistently score points. Antonio Giovinazzi and Nico Hülkenberg are the names that often come up to support Kevin Magnussen next season.

However, Nico Hülkenberg is the one who would be closest to reaching an agreement with Haas for 2023 and would thus make his return to the sport after 3 years of absence. This news is surprising when we remember the many clashes between Kevin Magnussen and the German driver.

The tension between the two drivers is at its peak during the 2017 Hungarian Grand Prix. After a forceful overtaking maneuver that resulted in him going off track, Nico Hülkenberg approached Magnussen to discuss what happened, and Magnussen insulted him live during the interview zone.

Today, the relationship between the two drivers has improved and the Haas driver states that he has no preference regarding his future teammate.

« I’ve said it more than once: I have no issue with Nico. I respect him as a driver, but other than that, I don’t really know him. I wouldn’t have any problem with him. Besides, I have no opinion on who should be in the other car. Mick is doing well at the moment. He had some problems and accidents at the beginning of the year, but he has definitely become faster. »
