American driver Logan Sargeant will take the wheel of Alexander Albon’s Williams during the second free practice session at Interlagos. As it is a Sprint race weekend, the team based in Grove has decided to let its regular drivers participate in FP1 to prepare for the qualifying session taking place on Friday afternoon. The FP2 will be held on Saturday in the early afternoon (local time).

Logan Sargeant finds himself in a somewhat unique situation. Announced as a replacement for Nicholas Latifi at Williams starting in 2023, this promotion is contingent on the American driver obtaining his Super License. Everything will be decided during the final race of the Formula 2 championship in Abu Dhabi, where Sargeant currently occupies third place.

In the meantime, the only way for the Floridian to earn points is by accumulating kilometers in Formula 1. Already behind the wheel of the Williams during the free practice sessions in Austin and Mexico, Sargeant couldn’t score any points during the last meeting due to… just four small kilometers. Victim of a mechanical failure, the FW44 had covered 96 kilometers instead of the required 100 to earn an additional point on the Super License. The native of Bacon Raton will therefore have an additional chance to get closer to his F1 dream at Interlagos.
