McLaren will find it hard to compete, says Norris

The young British driver, who is spearheading McLaren, has no great expectations for this Brazilian Grand Prix. He finished 7th in the sprint race after starting from 4th on the grid. Frustrated by his lack of grip, he couldn't keep up with the pace at the front of the race.

The Brazilian weekend is definitely challenging for the Woking team driver. Lando Norris had hopes of performing well in the sprint race after qualifying in 4th position on Friday.

However, the McLaren was unable to compete with the other cars during the 24-lap sprint race. It finishes ahead of Kevin Magnussen but was not in a position to fight at the front. A worrying situation for the English team, who are currently battling with Alpine for fourth place in the World Constructors’ Championship.

« They are so much faster than us, even in the first round so [it was] difficult, but our main goal was to try to overtake [Kevin] Magnussen and that’s what we did so I’m happy. »

The British driver couldn’t fully exploit his car, but he is satisfied with the final result as it allows McLaren to gain some valuable points over Alpine.

The car was terrible, but I have the impression that everyone thought the same today, just low grip, hot track temperature. It was so challenging, but we managed to get some points. It’s better than nothing so I’m happy.

Lando Norris believes that a double podium is possible for the Woking team after a strong comeback by Daniel Ricciardo. However, the British driver finds it difficult to hope for a higher result.

So, by staying in the points and if we can get a double, I know that Daniel did well, so if we can enter the points tomorrow, it could be a good day for us.

I don’t expect much more than today. I think it was a good race.

The McLaren drivers will start from the 7th and 11th positions on the starting grid this Sunday. Norris is ahead of his teammate Ricciardo.
