Alonso: I’m looking forward to Abu Dhabi"

The sprint race was a disaster for Alpine on Saturday, with two collisions between the team's two single-seaters. Fernando was penalized by race management following these incidents. Outraged by his team-mate's on-track behaviour, the two-time Spanish world champion is looking forward to his last race with Alpine at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The start of the sprint race was a real disaster for the French team. Fernando Alonso was furious after colliding with his teammate twice. The second contact, which occurred on the straight at the end of the first lap, destroyed any hope of a result for Fernando Alonso. He completely shattered his front wing by moving too late to overtake his teammate. He was forced to stop at the pits and came out last.

The Spanish driver spoke on the radio about these incidents and blamed Esteban Ocon. However, after the race, he and his teammate were summoned by the race management to discuss the collisions involving the two drivers. After deliberation, a five-second penalty was given to Fernando Alonso. He is frustrated with the incidents that occurred on the track this Saturday.

« It’s obviously not ideal when you’re fighting with your teammate. There’s only one race left after this and it’s over, so I can’t wait to be in Abu Dhabi. I was almost in the wall in Jeddah, also in Budapest at the start, now this, so yeah… There’s nothing more to say about it, it’s just another race. » he confided to Viaplay.

The Spanish driver will start from the 17th position on the starting grid just behind Esteban Ocon. He is satisfied with the pace of his car in race conditions and hopes that the team will be able to score points in the last two races of the season.
