Official: Chinese Grand Prix 2023 cancelled
The difficult health situation in Asia will once again have taken its toll on the Chinese Grand Prix in 2023. Formula 1 is evaluating alternative options to replace this round on the calendar.
Formula 1 has been experiencing a difficult comeback in Asia since the Covid-19 epidemic and the implementation of important health regulations. The Japanese and Singapore Grand Prix races only returned to the calendar in 2022 after a 3-year absence. Therefore, the cancellation of the Chinese Grand Prix is not a surprise given the current health situation. It was announced by a press release from Formula 1, this Friday.
« Formula 1 can confirm, following a dialogue with the promoter and the relevant authorities, that the Chinese Grand Prix 2023 will not take place due to the ongoing difficulties posed by the COVID-19 situation.
Alternative solutions
Formula 1 has had to deal with numerous cancellations of Grand Prix races due to Covid-19 in recent years. However, this has not tarnished the different seasons, as other races have come to replace the cancelled Grand Prix. It has been an opportunity to discover or rediscover exceptional tracks around the world (Portimao, Nürburgring…).
The Formula 1 is assessing several options to replace this race, which now leaves a significant gap in the calendar. Indeed, there are now 4 weeks between the Australian Grand Prix and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The Formula 1 is considering alternative options to replace the 2023 calendar slot and will provide an update on this matter in due time.
