Ricciardo advises Piastri to gradually increase the pace in 2023
Daniel Ricciardo will not be driving for McLaren in 2023. The Australian driver will be replaced by his compatriot, Oscar Piastri. He was keen to give the latter some advice during his appearance on the official Formula 1 podcast.

Rookies often make numerous mistakes by wanting to go too fast, resulting in crashes and errors on the track. Daniel Ricciardo advises his compatriot not to try to go too fast in his first races and to take the time to learn.
« It may seem like a very ordinary answer, but… You just have to go for it and pilot. You need to learn, be a sponge at this level, but go for it and pilot. He shouldn’t set the bar too high right away.

Patience, a key to success.
The first races of a Formula 1 driver have a significant impact on their career. However, it is important to gradually progress as a mistake on the track can happen quickly. The main objective is to show consistency and performance before wanting to prove one’s worth. Consistency is also an essential element for the success of a Formula 1 driver.
« If you do better than expected in this situation, it’s fantastic. But you have to take race after race. Learn and feel that you’re improving with each race. That’s the goal, we shouldn’t expect instant results.
» Daniel Riccardo stated this during the Beyond The Grid podcast.
