Romain Grosjean: Haas should not have parted company with Mick Schumacher for 2023
Mick Schumacher has not been retained by Haas for the 2023 season. Romain Grosjean, who spent five years with the American team, believes that Haas has made the wrong choice.

Romain Grosjean is the one who has competed in the most races with Haas: he evolved there from 2016 to 2020. Now an Indycar driver, the French driver has expressed his thoughts on this late decision made by Haas. The American team announced before the last Grand Prix of this season that they would replace Mick Schumacher with Nico Hülkenberg for 2023.
A questionable choice
Mick Schumacher was in his second season with Haas in 2022. He had to prove what he was capable of after an almost anonymous 2021 season due to a catastrophic car.
Unfortunately for him, the arrival of Kevin Magnussen by his side at the beginning of the season somewhat dampened the progress of the young German: from the first race, the Danish driver finished 5th and achieved an exceptional performance behind the wheel of the American car.
Mick Schumacher has shown his worth by scoring points twice during the season. However, this has by no means overshadowed his numerous mistakes on the track. Romain Grosjean questions the justification of this decision: since Schumacher was making progress, why replace him with Hülkenberg, who has had little recent racing experience?
« Mick Schumacher had a good end to the season and from my point of view, there was no reason to change anything in the lineup » states Romain Grosjean. « The team probably wanted a different driver. »
However, he wants to remind that Hülkenberg is a driver with important qualities and that he absolutely has his place in Formula 1.
« Hülkenberg is a very talented driver who has a significant top speed. Let’s see what he can achieve at Haas, but – once again – this is not the decision I would have made regarding the driver issue.
