It is in a particularly short press release that the Williams team announced the end of its relationship with its CEO and team principal, Jost Capito. The Neunkirchen native has spoken about his departure from the Grove-based organization:

It has been a huge privilege to be able to lead Williams Racing these past two seasons and to have laid the foundations for the rebuilding of this great team. I am looking forward to witnessing as a spectator the team’s journey towards its future success.

Jost Capito is not the only one leaving the Williams ship. Indeed, François-Xavier Demaison, who held the role of technical director, is also on his way out. The 53-year-old engineer had joined the team founded by Frank Williams in 2021.

Jost Capito had joined Williams after the British team was acquired by Dorilton Capitals. The acquisition reassured fans because the interest was not only financial but also sporting. A 10-year plan was announced with the goal of bringing Williams back to the top. Under Capito’s leadership, Williams never left the back of the grid but managed to get closer to the midfield and had some standout moments. One can notably think of George Russell’s podium in Belgium in 2021 or the times when Albon had the pace to fight for points this year.

The former director of Williams could hypothetically have left Grove to join Hinwill and replace Frédéric Vasseur at Alfa Romeo. Peter Sauber recently explained that such an opportunity cannot be refused.
