The ranking of the drivers by the drivers
Each year, the F1 drivers themselves establish a ranking of the best drivers in 2022. Here is their top 10.

This ranking was established by the drivers who voted for their Top 10 best drivers of the season. The first in a ranking received 25 points, the second 18, and so on. The points format is therefore the same as the one used after the races.
1 | 1 | Verstappen |
2 | 2 | Leclerc |
3 | 3 | Hamilton |
4 | 3 | Russell |
5 | 5 | Norris |
6 | 6 | Alonso |
7 | 7 | Sainz |
8 | 8 | Albon |
9 | 8 | Vettel |
10 | 8 | Perez |
Unchanged leaders
Without too many surprises, the vote for the top two drivers of 2022 follows the championship standings with Max Verstappen at the top and Charles Leclerc in second position. Between them, Verstappen and Leclerc have won over three-quarters of the races this season (Verstappen has won 15 and Leclerc 3). While Max Verstappen has been the most successful driver this season, there is one trophy missing for him: the one for the driver with the most pole positions. This title actually goes to Charles Leclerc, who has secured the first place on the grid on 9 occasions, 2 more than the Red Bull driver. With such impressive statistics, it is not surprising to see other drivers on the grid acknowledging the outstanding form of these two men in 2022.
The Mercedes drivers are tied.
Despite a uncompetitive W13 at the beginning of the season, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were able to be patient and work with the engineers to improve this delicate car. Their hard work paid off as early as the 9th race of the season, with Lewis Hamilton achieving five consecutive podium finishes between Canada and Hungary. George Russell brought his team their only victory of the season with his impressive performance in Brazil. The performance of the Mercedes drivers has impressed their colleagues so much that they find themselves tied for third place. It is true that the two Mercedes drivers have been very close in terms of performance this season.
The best of the others
Lando Norris was voted the 5th best driver of the season. He surpassed Fernando Alonso. A well-deserved position for the young McLaren driver who finished this 2022 season in 7th place, the best among the rest. Despite numerous mechanical issues that deprived him of many points in 2022, Fernando Alonso impressed his peers enough to be voted the 6th best driver of 2022.
Numbers 2 that have not convinced much.
With respectively 11 podiums including 2 victories and 9 podiums including 1 victory, Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz do not seem to have convinced their fellow drivers in 2022. The Spaniard was voted the 7th best driver, while Sergio Perez finds himself in a lower position. The reason why these two drivers were ranked so low is probably due to the significant performance gap with their teammates. Indeed, neither of them was able to establish themselves as a title contender this season despite having a car that allowed for it. Sergio Perez shares the 8th position with Alexander Albon and Sebastian Vettel.
