Audi wants to recruit a development driver in 2023
While the ring company will not enter Formula 1 until 2026, it has already started making significant investments for its debut in the sport. The CEO of Audi Formula Racing, Adam Baker, spoke about one of the key steps in a project that marks the arrival of a new engine manufacturer in Formula 1, a first since Honda's return to the sport in 2015.

Audi sees things on a large scale for its debut in Formula 1. The German company is thus putting many resources into place to arrive with the best possible preparation for its first season in the discipline in 2026. New facilities will be specifically built for this program, and qualified personnel will be recruited in order to develop the engine block as best as possible, in compliance with the new regulations.
If the German team has not yet defined its crew for its first season, they are, however, looking for a development driver to improve their race car. This person will mainly work with Audi and will start chassis testing with Sauber later in the development process. The two key criteria in recruiting are speed and experience.
« It may seem like our beginnings are far off, but we aim to have a development driver by the end of 2023, states Adam Baker to Soy Motor. « It is crucial to have someone with experience to develop our new engine on the simulators we have in Neuburg. »
Mick Schumacher is often mentioned in rumors regarding Audi since his dismissal from Haas at the end of last season. However, the German driver is now a reserve driver for Mercedes and is not a priority for the Ingolstadt company.
(e) Although everyone associates him with us, he chose to go to Mercedes. It is something that we understand because his goal is to return to the Formula 1 grid as soon as possible, » Adam Baker concludes.
