Alpine made a lasting impression by displaying impressive performances throughout the 2022 season. The highlight of this successful campaign was Fernando Alonso’s second place at the start of the Canadian Grand Prix. However, the team still had to fight against McLaren, which had a significantly less powerful car due to the Renault engine’s catastrophic reliability. In fact, the French team improved the performance of their engine at the expense of its reliability.

Esteban Ocon is nevertheless satisfied with this new power unit that has allowed him to fight at the front. He believes that this engine is one of the strengths of his car. He thinks that if the French team manages to make this high-performing engine reliable, he will be able to have a great season in 2023 alongside Pierre Gasly.

« I think it’s very good, it’s one of our strong assets. » Declares the French driver about the engine of the A522.

« I was impressed by the top speed we had in Brazil, we were able to make good overtakes. »

The French driver is also satisfied with his 2022 season where he believes he was able to make the most of his car when the situation on the track allowed it. He has also improved in the area of qualifying, frequently being closer to the leading teams.

I have the feeling that I have pushed the car to its limits more times than I did last year.
