Juan Pablo Montoya’s son joins the Red Bull Young Drivers Academy

The Red Bull family continues to grow and will welcome a new driver to its team of young drivers for the 2023 season. Sebastian Montoya will be supported by the Austrian team in 2023 for his first season in FIA F3. This is a real achievement for the young Colombian driver who had participated in his first F3 race in Zandvoort in 2022. He made an impression by scoring 7 points in his debut in the discipline with the Campos team. The son of the seven-time Colombian Grand Prix winner expressed his thoughts about this promotion on his Instagram account.

I am delighted to announce that I am now part of the official junior team of Red Bull.

« This past year, I was part of the brand’s athletes and now we are going to work together for the ultimate goal: Formula 1,” declared the new member of Red Bull’s young driver team.

Another step towards Formula 1.

The young Colombian driver wants to reach Formula 1, and his ascent in FIA Formula 3 is one step closer to the pinnacle category. He competed in the European and Asian Formula Regional series last season and achieved 13th and 7th places in these development formula championships. He also took part in some endurance races in the IMSA series alongside his father in an LMP2 car. He participated in post-season tests with Hitech in F3 and could potentially race for this Red Bull-supported team in the 2023 championship.

Sebastian’s father, Juan Pablo Montoya, began his Formula 1 career in 2001 as a driver for Williams. He won 7 races and achieved 13 pole positions during his Formula 1 career, which ended in 2006. He then continued his career in NASCAR and IndyCar.
