Porsche is preparing to make a major announcement about their future in motorsport this Monday
Porsche is getting ready to make an important announcement today. It's no secret that the Stuttgart-based entity is looking to enter Formula 1, despite the failed negotiations with the Red Bull Racing team last year.

The Volkswagen Group wants to make its entry into the premier category through its brands Audi and Porsche. A task that is already half accomplished via Audi’s partnership with Sauber starting in 2026, which will provide an engine according to the future regulations of that same year.
While Porsche was close to a similar partnership, after months of negotiation with the reigning world champions from Red Bull, the agreement ultimately did not materialize. The German brand’s desire to own 50% of the Austrian team was the reason behind it, which was not the intention on the Austrian side.
« Over the past few months, Porsche AG and Red Bull GmbH have been engaged in discussions regarding Porsche’s entry into Formula 1. The two companies have jointly come to the conclusion that these talks will no longer continue, as announced in the German manufacturer’s statement. « The promise has always been that this partnership should be based on equal footing, which includes not only the supply of an engine, but also a partnership on the team itself. »
From then on, Porsche started searching for a new partner, while most of the F1 teams already have their own engine or are under contract with an engine supplier. At this point, few options remain on the table.
A teaser on Instagram that hides the photo of Franck Williams?
On the Instagram account of Porsche Formula E, only one post remains, that of a major announcement to follow today, Monday, January 16th, 2023. The caption of the video “Start your engines” raises a question because Formula E cars do not have engines, but rather have a drivetrain.
Speculations on the internet are rife regarding a possible partner for Porsche, but there is only one contender that seems to have emerged, and that is the Williams team. Dorilton Capital, the owner of the Grove-based team, wants to bring the structure back to the top. Williams recently managed to convince James Vowles, who left Mercedes, to become the team’s director. Williams currently remains the only team without a strong relationship with another team, although Mercedes is closely linked to Williams.
The arrival of a Williams Porsche joint venture could therefore be an upcoming announcement in the next few hours. Williams could also take the opportunity to enter Formula E. The team already supplies many parts for motorsport competitions, including Formula E teams, in addition to its activities outside of Formula 1 today.
