The attempt of Colton Herta to acquire his Super License was halted by the FIA
The young American driver was in the running to secure a seat at AlphaTauri in 2023 if he had obtained his Super License, which is necessary to drive in F1.
A potential transfer to AlphaTauri in Formula 1 is being considered.
During the summer of 2022, AlphaTauri wanted to recruit Colton Herta to replace Pierre Gasly, who was in discussions with Alpine for the 2023 season. However, despite the undeniable talent of the Andretti driver, he was unable to gather the necessary number of points to directly enter Formula 1.
A request for a derogation was then made to the FIA by Red Bull on behalf of the American driver to allow him to compete in the premier category. However, this request was unsuccessful and several Formula 1 teams joined forces to help Herta earn additional points to obtain the Super Licence. Nevertheless, Red Bull decided not to hire the Andretti driver anymore and canceled some of the planned tests.

In order to still obtain the precious ticket that allows one to drive in Formula 1, the entourage of the American driver attempted to have him compete in the American Formula 3 championship. While the arrival of such a talented driver had intrigued the championship officials, as well as the drivers and teams, the FIA prevented Herta from participating in this championship.
