Official: The Barcelona circuit removes the chicane turn for F1
The single-seaters will no longer take the chicane located in the last sector of the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit during the next Spanish Grand Prix.

This is news that should delight Formula 1 fans! During the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix, which will take place from June 2nd to 4th, the single-seaters will not use the chicane in the last sector that was implemented in 2007 between turns 13 and 16 of the Catalan circuit. This modification will consequently have a significant impact on lap times.
The circuit officials had added this chicane in order to bring the cars closer together before the long straight of the pit lane and for safety reasons. Criticized by fans and drivers, these two slow turns broke the rhythm of the lap while overtaking maneuvers were never more frequent compared to the original layout.
This is not the first time that this circuit has undergone modifications. Already in 2021, the layout saw the return of the “La Caixa” corner after its modification in 2004. The 2023 edition of the Spanish Grand Prix will thus take place on the original layout of the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit, which has been a regular stop for F1 cars since 1991.
